The theatre performance 'Ons Eiland' (Our island) was made in the neighbourhood Woensel-West in Eindhoven. The residents of Woensel-West were the main characters and the neighbourhood was the decor.
As spectator you walk a route through the neighbourhood. You visit living rooms, a backgarden and the so-called 'buurtwerkkamer' in the middle of the neighbourhood. At every location a different story unfolds. A story from behind the front door. You get to know the residents from Woensel-West on a special way.
Ons Eiland (Our Island) is a project from social design collective Tante Netty. The aim of the project was to pay attention to and try to create more connection between local residents in the area. By sharing stories we create more contact and understanding. In the proces various new and authentic local residents were interviewed. Their stories formed the fundation for the script of the play.
In september 2023 Ons Eiland played 6 times and over 250 visitors walked along with the theatre route. At the end there were 30 actors, tourguides and volunteers involved with the project.
